Lionel Messi scored his 299th goal for Barcelona FC and La Blaugrana rolled to a 6-1 victory over Getafe in Sunday’s fixture at Camp Nou.
There was little doubt from the start who the superior team was on the pitch, and Barca left little doubt throughout. After one half, the hosts dominated with a 2-0 advantage and led with a 76 percent possession mark.
Andres Iniesta set up two first-half goals for Barcelona, including a beautifully placed pass that found Alexis Sanchez breaking behind a defender. Sanchez paused momentarily, but only for a moment, before placing a beautiful touch shot past the goalkeeper to put Barca ahead in just the sixth minute of action.
The assault didn’t subside from the hosting Catalan giants. Seven minutes (13’) later, Iniesta was at it again, this time setting up living legend Lionel Messi for his 35th goal of the season.
Barca kept the attack on throughout the first half but was unable to find the net after multiple attempts.
he second half, as expected, was much of the same for these two clubs.
Barcelona added its third goal in the 58th minute after a beautiful entry pass from Jordi Alba found David Villa behind the Getafe back line. Villa did the rest, leaving a quick touch shot wide of the keeper and into the back of the net.
The club added another with a 78th-minute goal by Cristian Tello on an assist from Messi.
Barca got a little lazy in the waning moments of the action and allowed a deep pass through its back line. That pass set up reserve man Alvaro Vazquez for an easy score after he beat Victor Valdes in the box to his left.
Just when the visitors thought they were leaving Camp Nou with a 4-1 defeat, Iniesta swooped in and netted the club’s fifth score off of a deflection of a Messi attack. They weren’t done there, though, and added a sixth moments later in the closing minute of the action.
