Barcelona president, Sandro Rosell refused to rule out signing Brazilian Neymar and said that the
club is always willing to bring in talent from outside if it doesn’t already have it at home.
“Barça always wants the best. In addition to those brought up inside the club, we’re always looking for players that could improve the squad. I don’t know in Neymar’s case, he’s a Santos player until 2014”, Rosell told Portuguese TV programme ‘Sic Noticias’ in an interview given during his visit to Israel and broadcast today.
In an in-depth interview, Rosell revealed the key to the club’s success, talked about the rivalry with Real Madrid and expressed a wish that the team’s most famous home-grown players, like Leo Messi and Víctor Valdés, end their sporting careers at the Camp Nou.
“Actions speak louder than words”, Rosell argued, endorsing the policy that “players who started their careers here should retire here”, mentioning Xavi Hernández, Andrés Iniesta and Carles Puyol, amongst others.
Although the squad includes a number of superstars, Rosell believes it’s “very easy” to be club president because the likes of Messi “are even better people than they are players”.
Although he accepts that his opinion is biased, the 48-year-old president believes that this Barcelona is “the best team ever”.
“They say that everything moves in three-year cycles. We’ve had four great years and we’ll see how the fifth one turns out, but it’s looking good. This team has already broken the three-year rule”, he stated. Rosell said that “there will eventually be a dip”, but the club’s objective will be to ensure that it’s “short-lived and isn’t too major”.
